Mero Sikai : Mobile App
“Mero Sikai” is a Nepali Sign Language and other accessibility Mobile Application, developed within the Reading for All Program with the objective of supporting to improve the reading skill of the students with and without disabilities. This app comprises the reading skill improvement contents such as; reading/learning materials; letters, words, sentences, stories, and interactions, and the related exercises along with pictures and Nepali sign language videos. Around 2000 words are inserted in this app and exercises also included with the interesting way in between the content.
“Mero Sikai '' app can be considered a disability-friendly app. Nepali Sign language and fingerspelling in the Devnagari script has been coupled with the audio contents. The app is expected to maximize support to deaf students but the audio with the video contents will also support students having other types of disabilities such as; blind, low vision, students having the neurodevelopmental disorder, struggling learners, and students without a disability. Similarly, teachers, parents, and those who are interested in learning Nepali Sign Language can also use it easily.
This app is developed for android devices only. The devices (mobiles/tablets) must contain android version 5.5 or above. This app carries around 5-6 GB data, which includes videos, audios, texts and pictures of around 2000 words and letters, over 200-300 sentences, 10 Pre-NSL videos, 15 stories and 10 interaction videos. In each section, one theme has been made offline (as default), which doesn’t require the internet. It also includes a download feature for each theme separately, for the rest of the themes.
